Nursing Shortage – Funding for Nursing Workforce Development

The ANA, in the 112th congress, has called for a 10% increase of spending for Nursing Workforce Development. Recommended areas for spending include Advanced Nursing Education, Workforce Diversity Grants, Nurse Education, Practice, and Retention Grants, National Nurse Service Corps, Nurse Faculty Loan Program, and Comprehensive Geriatric Education Grants. The increase is called for to address a projected nursing shortage of 36% representing 1 million RNs (American Nurses Association, n.d.).
